It is a busy time for NASW Wisconsin. New leadership in Madison means Marc and all of us are trying to get to know our governmental officials and help them to get to know us. There are many legislative issues that we are looking for support and/or leaders to sponsor bills. Marc is very good at reaching out “across the aisle” as we are finding that issues that are important to social workers and those we serve, are important to many, regardless of party affiliation. If there is a way you think YOU can help, let us know. We are always looking for ways to connect with our leaders. You can contact myself or Marc Herstand at NASW Wisconsin.
It may be March, but soon we will be knee deep into our NASW Wisconsin sponsored, Lobby Day. It is a great experience to see political advocacy in action. Lobby Day is scheduled for Wednesday, April 12, 2017 from 9:00 – 4:00 at the Madison Masonic Center and Wisconsin State Capitol. We are so fortunate to have as our keynote speaker, State Representative, Jonathon Brostoff. I hope many of you will be able to come!
Finally, it has been two months since our new president has taken office and it seems that the challenges, the conflicts and the difficulties of this transition are unlike anything I have ever experienced in my lifetime. More than ever, it is essential that we always utilize factual information, maintain strong professional alliances and treat one another (even those and especially those we do not agree with) with respect. Know that I am grateful to all of you for the work you have done to make our world a better place. Keep at it.
